Touch Screen Unresponsive in VR - XP 12
#1
Hi,

I've upgraded to the GTN 750Xi from the GTN 750 and the touchscreen is unresponsive if I start the flight in VR. This didn't happen with the old 750, just started with the 750Xi. If I start it in 2D mode and switch to VR it seems to be fine.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rover.

Hello Rover,

Thank you for this bug report, we did find an issue on our end with VR creation before the aircraft is loaded and we have fixed it. We can not state for certain if this is the bug fix for your specific case.

Exactly which touchscreen is unresponsive: 2d pop-up or virtual cockpit integration?
Which aircraft are you using inside X-Plane 12.4.3?

From the TDS end we are working on some VR changes internally to align ourselves with the latest X-Plane code changes, this is an ongoing collaborative effort between us and LR. Because of this, we recommend that we revisit this issue with the a future, official version of X-Plane as well as the next TDS GTNXi XPlane, V1.0.1.6 where we hope that all components will align.

The cockpit integration screen is the one that is unresponsive. The bezel buttons and knobs work - Home, Direct To, ... but the screen does not, until I click it once in 2D mode, then it's fine. I haven't tried to interact with the popup in 2D to see if that activates it, just the integrated unit in the heli in 2D.

Several aircraft - Bell 429, Bell 412, MD500E... pretty much every heli that has the GTNXi integration.

Also, not sure if this is related but I'm seeing this in the log on shutdown: [TDS GTNXi Plugin for XPlane]: Dataref is not owned by you - you cannot unregister.

Thanks,
Rover

Hi,

I did a quick test and started in VR mode and confirmed the touchscreen was unresponsive. In VR mode I opened the GTNXi menu and selected "Show Window". I took the VR unit off and interacted with the popup window clicking Continue several times to get to the Home screen. I then put the VR unit back on and tried to interact with the integrated screen and still got no response. I then disabled VR mode, interacted with the integrated screen using the mouse, then went back into VR mode and the integrated screen became responsive.

So, interacting with the popup screen does not fix the issue. You need to be completely in 2D mode.

EDIT: I tried just switching to 2D mode and not interact with the GTN then back into VR mode. It too does not fix the issue. You need to interact with the integrated unit in 2D for it to become active in VR mode. I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Rover.

Where can i get the new version to fix this? I am having a similar issue. I can't click on the continue buttons in VR. if I go to regular mode and get past them, then go back to vr it works fine.

The TDS GTNXi XPlane version 1.0.1.6 will have VR improvements as part of X-Plane 12.4.4 beta. This TDS version is upcoming.

Is there an ETA on this?

No ETA on this. Can you please let us know if you are having any issues other than when in VR?
Also provide us with a detailed report about what you expect to work differently in VR.

The only issue I am having is when I start a flight in VR I cannot activate the Continue buttons that show up on the 750.

If I switch to flat screen mode (not VR), I can use the mouse to hit the continue buttons until I am on the main 750 screen.

I can then change xplane back to VR mode and my VR controller works fine on the 750 touch screen.

If I power off the master switch or avionics in a way that reboots the 750, then I have to switch back to flat screen mode in order to get past the continue buttons on the 750.

If there is any work around that would allow me to stay in Vr mode that would be awesome.

Thank you for the information.

In regards to the TDS GTNXi, is it with the 2d pop-up or inside the virtual cockpit (3d model)?
With which aircraft?

The upgraded in progress by TDS and part of X-Plane 12.4.4 will bring the 2d pop-up GTNXi into VR, as part of custom avionics devices.

To use the VR mouse inside the 3d model (virtual cockpit), the aircraft must be compatible with the new system: custom avionics devices. This is part of X-Plane 12 and requires integration by the add-on aircraft developer. From the TDS end we fully support this technology, but this must be requred from the aircraft add-on developer as the changes must be performed on the 3d model side.
For example Thranda have recently updated their PC-12 to V2 and they have custom avionics support, so this means that the TDS GTNXi XPlane will work in VR perfectly.
There are multiple benefits of custom avionics devices, a big one is performance improvements, so we strongly encourage aircraft add-on developers to follow the X-Plane 12 SKD and transition to the official method of drawing touchscreen LCD gauges!

This is the list of aircraft for X-Plane 12 at the time of writing this message, it is ever growing, so it will be outdated as more and more aircraft get released.

Thranda PC12
JustFlight PA38 Tomahawk
JetSteram CIS Navajo Chieftain
Thranda F33A
Thranda V35B
T1 Airbus by Jeffory
PAE Bonanza A36
KingAir C90B Blackhawk mod
AirSim C560XL
